‌Deburring‌ ‌at‌ ‌Zanardi‌ ‌Fonderie‌

An internal fettling department upgraded with machinery par excellence

100% of the ductile iron castings we produce are internally fettled

At Zanardi Fonderie, the deburring of castings in spheroidal graphite iron (GJS), austempered ductile iron (ADI) and isothermal ductile iron (IDI) takes place internally using the following machines:

  • 2 automatic burr removal robot cells (Evolut)
  • Automatic burr removal CNC stations (Maus)
  • Burr removal robot cells (Sir)
  • Horizontal lathes (Goodway)
  • Manual deburring booths
  • Fixed wheel deburring stations

Evolut and Modula in the fettling department: two important investments to enhance production efficiency

The two new EVOLUT automatic deburring robot cells were commissioned in 2019: the first is able to remove burr from castings up to 90 kg and the second is dedicated to deburring smaller castings, up to 25 kg, and is integrated with the tending system through an automatic vertical storage system (MODULA).

Together with the first, a second MODULA model storage system was purchased for the storage and management of all other deburring equipment. This latest investment has allowed us to take an important step forward in the streamlining of our cycle times, productivity, quality, repeatability and flexibility, thus completing the Zanardi Fonderie offer and eliminating redundant operations with low added value.

Before deburring operations, all ductile iron castings in output from the foundry line are subject to quality control testing, which includes a visual inspection and hardness test. Once checked, the pieces are separated into batches, collected in dedicated internal handling crates and properly identified with a code used to track all subsequent stages.
