Mechanical machining | Zanardi Fonderie
Hi-tech mechanical machining to reduce waste and obtain high-performance castings in spheroidal graphite iron and austempered ductile iron
Thanks to our modern mechanical machine shop and a network of external machine shops, we satisfy all needs
Requests for mechanical machining on castings in spheroidal graphite iron (GJS), austempered ductile iron (ADI) and isothermal ductile iron (IDI) have significantly increased in recent years. For this reason, in addition to the continuous development of the subsupply chain, we have also enriched the Zanardi Fonderie mechanical machine shop with the installation of two new OKUMA (MU4000 and B550) 5-axis horizontal lathes, which represent the best-in-class solution for complex mechanical machining on the materials we produce.

OKUMA machine for a modern, hi-tech mechanical machine shop
The OKUMA B550 machine is a 5-axis twin-spindle lathe with steady rest, while the OKUMA U4000 is a 5-axis twin-spindle lathe with lower turret.
Thanks to the investment in these two machines par excellence, the Zanardi Fonderie mechanical machine shop has been fully upgraded and modernised, allowing us to complete our offer and satisfy our clients’ varying needs.
Both lathes are equipped with 3D measuring machines installed on-board the machine. The MU 4000 lathe is also equipped with a robot cell able to integrate handling, measurements, cleaning and marking on the castings.

Mechanical machining by Zanardi Fonderie on cast iron castings in GJS, ADI and IDI
Within our plant, we are able to perform the following processes on castings in spheroidal graphite iron (GJS), austempered ductile iron (ADI) and isothermal ductile iron (IDI):
- Turning
- Work cell processes
- Drilling
As with the deburring department, a MODULA vertical storage system has also been installed in our mechanical machine shop for the storage and management of all mechanical machining equipment.
A widespread network of external machine shops for machining GJS, ADI and IDI cast parts.
Thanks to a reliable network of external machine shops which are cooperating with us since many years, we can offer a complete service of mechanical machining and also guarantee an effective management of entire Supply Chain.
